Ministry Update

"Are You a Hero"
by Mark Clark

“And a lean, silent figure slowly fades into the gathering darkness, aware at last that in this world, with great power there must also come—great responsibility!” With these words Stan Lee closed the first story of Spider-Man and opened more than four decades of loyal readership.
Spider-Man was at first rejected by the publisher, until Lee suggested they debut the story in the final issue of a defunct comic, Amazing Fantasy No. 15 (August, 1962). The comic sold like crazy, and a year later The Amazing Spider-Man was back with his own comic! Spider-Man became Marvel Comics best selling character of all time.
Many have asked why Spider-Man is so popular, and creator Stan Lee offers this comment: “The hero that could be you!” Many who have read the comics (or now seen the movies) identify with Peter Parker/Spider-Man. Peter has his flaws and wrestles with his humanity. He was the butt of jokes and ridicule. His issues with work, school, and relationships were carefully written and drawn for anyone with a quarter to read (that should tell you something about the age of this author).
The ultimate confirmation of Peter Parker’s humanity is presented when in a snit he refuses to stop a fleeing thief, the thief who ultimately kills Peter’s uncle/foster parent. Peter is forever reminded that “with great power comes great responsibility.”
I challenge you to be a hero! You have at your disposal the great “powers” of time, talents, and treasures. You have the opportunity to share in the ministry of LACC as a volunteer for workdays or camp sessions, by funding the camp through regular giving or special gifts, and by faithfully praying for the campers, volunteers and staff.
“With great power comes great responsibility.” Thanks for sharing the “powers” God has entrusted to you!
